The Department of Nursing Foundations (Fundamentals of Nursing) at Devsthali Vidyapeeth serves as the gateway for nursing students into the healthcare world. We instill foundational clinical competencies, bedside patient care techniques, nursing ethics, and essential safety protocols, transforming novice students into confident, compassionate care providers.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Within a few years of graduation, our Nursing Foundations alumni will achieve the following milestones:

  • PEO-1 (Bedside Excellence): Demonstrate flawless execution of basic and advanced nursing procedures across inpatient wards and clinical setups.
  • PEO-2 (Patient Safety Champions): Lead infection control initiatives, patient hygiene maintenance, and medication safety protocols in top-tier healthcare systems.
  • PEO-3 (Professional Growth): Build strong foundations for advanced specialty training, clinical instruction, and healthcare quality management.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

On successful completion of this core training, students will be fully equipped to:

  • PSO-1: Perform vital sign assessments, health history documentation, physical examinations, and basic diagnostic procedures independently.
  • PSO-2: Practice strict aseptic techniques, wound care management, catheterization, and parenteral drug administration with technical accuracy.
  • PSO-3: Formulate individual nursing care plans (NCP) based on comprehensive patient health assessments and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

Fundamental Knowledge

Integrate principles of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and nursing arts into routine bedside clinical care.

Clinical Judgment

Apply critical thinking to prioritize patient needs, recognize deteriorating conditions, and respond with immediate care.

Infection Control & Safety

Maintain sterile field environments, hospital waste management (BMW) compliance, and ergonomic patient positioning.

Therapeutic Rapport

Establish strong therapeutic relationships with patients and families through empathetic listening and clear communication.

Skill Simulation Labs & Infrastructure

  • Advanced Nursing Skill Lab: A fully equipped, multi-bedded simulated hospital ward featuring adult manikins, CPR trainers, and clinical practice beds.
  • Procedure Demonstration Stations: Dedicated setups for practicing catheterization, nasogastric tube (NGT) insertion, IV cannulation, and wound dressing.
  • Infection Control & Sterilization Bay: Autoclave equipment, hand hygiene demonstration stations, and Biomedical Waste Management (BMW) compliance units.
  • Basic First Aid & Triage Corner: Models and equipment for practicing immediate emergency stabilization, bandaging, and patient transportation techniques.
